Maryborough is a thriving country town in the middle of the Goldfields region of Victoria. From the early 1850’s gold was discovered in the general region, and so started a great influx of people in search of riches. The town of Maryborough really began about 1854 when gold prospectors started to settle in the immediate area of where the town now stands. The town was settled and grew to the stage where there was the need of churches in the area.
So, Maryborough Church of Christ (MCC) began over 150 years ago. The first service was held on May 25, 1862. This means it is one of the oldest churches in Victoria of the Church of Christ denomination. And by the Lord’s grace is still going strong to the present day. From Dec 22nd, 1868 the church meeting moved a short distance to the location where the church still meets today, which is right near the centre of town. In 1963 a new hall was built, which serves as the Worship Hall to the present day. This was built by one of the church members at the time, Roy Walker. This hall officially opened on Oct 26th, 1963. Roy and his wife Norma remained as faithful members in the church right up until very recent times, when they both went to be with the Lord a few years apart. MCC has served the community well for over 150 years, and Lord willing will stand as a beacon of spiritual light in the region for many years to come.
