Maryborough Church of Christ is a community of people who seek to minister to each other and to those around us, proclaiming the good news revealed to us in Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul prayed for the Philippian church that their 'love may abound more and more, in knowledge and depth of insight, that [they] may approve what God's will is, his good, perfect and pleasing will'. This is our prayer for each other.
We seek to be a community that is relevant to all ages and situations, preaching God's word and living out Jesus' promises day to day. We meet together and pray, hear God's word preached, worship God through music, celebrate the Lord's Supper, study the Word of God, eat together regularly and share our lives with each other. We want to grow to be more like Christ and to make him known in Maryborough and surrounds, supporting our members in their daily lives as they do what God has called them to.
We are part of the Churches of Christ in Victoria and Tasmania which is a movement of the people of God gathering around the central figure of Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, living his way out in our local context and inviting others to do the same. This movement began more than 200 years ago in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. It is a movement founded in the scriptures and passionate about the good news about God as revealed in Jesus Christ. Churches of Christ value meeting together, serving each other, seeking justice and unity in our communities, and equipping individuals for ministry and mission.
We are situated in the Victorian Central Goldfields town of Maryborough and meet close to the centre of town. We have been meeting in Maryborough since 1862, celebrating 150 years of The Maryborough Church of Christ in 2012. These celebrations were a wonderful opportunity to reflect on God's grace to our community throughout our history and look forward to what God has planned for us.
